I have now finished the farm scene in Maya. I think the final render looks pretty good, I think I missed a few steps along the way somehow but, overall I think I did a good job. I learned so much more than I thought I would doing these videos. I never would have thought about rendering something in parts using layers and finishing the background in Photoshop. I didn't even know there were layers in Maya to be honest.
Overall, I feel as though I did a good job following along and I like the final render. It was a good learning experience.
One thing I definitely messed up was the shadow from grass to sand. It was so hard to line up my UV's because I had the grass and sand UV's far apart for some reason. I realise now I wasn't meant to do that, but it's definitely something I'll keep an eye on next time I do this sort of thing. I didn't realise how easy it was to make things so difficult in Photoshop with UV layouts. I guess I could have fixed it in Photoshop at the end but then I think I would have started messing with a lot of shadow colours and small colour gradients on the ground.
