Character Design: Idea / Who Are They?

 Prompts:

  • Character: Teenager
  • Theme: Filmation
  • Trait: Outcast
  • Setting: 1950's Highschool
  • Scene: After the bullies have gone
  • Animation: Hitting a ball
Current idea:
  1. A character who is an outcast and plays baseball. Witnesses a bully, bullying another person from the bleachers on the field and throws his baseball at the bully to catch the bullies attention then intimidates them to make the bully leave.

Update:
  • Their will be a love triangle between the three characters (Outcast, Girl, then bully). The girl who was brought up a bit rough like the outcast character will be trying to fit in, in the Highschool environment and she has adjusted herself to be more of a regular 'prom princess' kind of girl. As a result of this, she is now dating the bully (Highschool jock type).
  • The bully and outcast are both athletes the bully being more of the brutish strong type and the outcast being more of the skilled and aware athlete. They will be athletic rivals. However, the bully character gets to play on the team whereas the outcast doesn't as he doesn't 'fit the mold' of the sports team. Despite being just as good if not better than the brutish bully. So, the two of them really don't get along.
  • The two boys both liked the girl. However, the girl dated the bully instead in order to fit in better at school. Despite getting along better with the outcast. The girl character has been progressively altered and changed by the bully character. Who isn't physically abusive, but is very manipulative and controlling to the girl.

  • In the scene the outcast will approach the bleachers with his baseball bat and ball, to practice during the lunch break. But over hears the bully and the girl talking underneath the bleachers. Where the bully is being angry at the girl for getting some piercings.
  • The girl and the outcast will catch each others gaze as the bully is moaning at the girl and trying to take the piercings out by force.
  • Then after trying to walk away and ignore the situation the outcast will change his mind and hit a ball at the bully from the other side of the underside of the bleachers. In order to help the girl who is crying and being shouted at.
  • The ball will then hit the bully and knock him from underneath the bleachers back into the public eye of his school mates as he grovels in pain from the ball hit toward him.
  • The girl will then leave the bully and be more true to herself and stop faking her personality to fit in, in school after being inspired by the outcast.

Lighting and Rendering: Light Filters

I tried to follow along with this tutorial but, didn't have the option to use light filters for some reason. I couldn't find them in any other menu either. So, I watched the tutorial to the end regardless.

Character Design: Warm up Session 1

We were given an item and told to research the item, looking into many ways it can look at its most authentic state, then draw it again with some character and personality. Old worn out clown shoes all busted and falling apart.
