Stardew Valley is a simulation role-playing video game developed by Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone. Players take the role of a character who takes over their deceased grandfather's dilapidated farm in a place known as Stardew Valley.
By mapping animals into human society while maintaining its conflicted and contradictory relationship with animals, Animal Crossing essentially codifies that dichotomy into an animal caste system that allows socially superior members to freely enslave and consume their own kind without any sort of internal conflict.

- relating to or characterized by anthropomorphism."explanations of animal behaviour in anthropomorphic terms"
- having human characteristics."anthropomorphic bears and monkeys"
- why simulation games are so additive
The game represents an escape from reality, but not in the same way that most games do. All games, no matter the genre, represent an escape from reality. Players can do in the games what they can't do in real life, whether that's fighting a dragon or becoming a star athlete.
But for Stardew Valley, the escape from reality comes by mirroring it.
Life is disappointing, but the game isn't. That's a huge reason why it's still so popular with players today, because it gives them a timeless opportunity to do better than they currently are.
