Skinning101: Legs

Completed the tutorial for skinning the legs, concluding the walkthrough of the two methods used for skinning; them being the precise, mathematical method and the painterly interactive method.

Skinning101: Arms

Completed the tutorial covering the basics of skinning and finished skinning the arm rig.

Rigging and Skinning: Eye Rig

Rigging and Skinning: Part 2,3,4

I made the rest of the rig, colour coded and paired up following the tutorial website:

Texturing101: Part 3

I wasn't able to finish this model I kept getting the error message that the textures exceeded my RAM size as well as, an error saying I didn't have 'mental ray nodes'. Which I'm not sure affected anything. I tried to download the nodes however, I wasn't able to download them. So I watched the video to the end regardless to see the process. This is how the door was supposed to look: NOT MY WORK, VIDEO EXAMPLE. I'm going to set up Maya on my laptop to see if it can handle this level of work, it can handle games with high graphics and whatnot, so I think it should work. If not I'll get more RAM for my current computer.

Texturing101: Part 2

I edited a bump map and a specular map for the texture to add depth to the wall in Maya and this is how that looks: Bump Map: Specular Map: The next step of this tutorial was to apply a graffiti and mud to layer above the bricks however, I didn't have to node to be able to do this. So I just watched the video to the end anyway. I should have had a node available in this menu called 'aiLayerRgba1'.

Texturing101: Part 1

I have edited the bricks in Photoshop to be a tileable texture in Maya and this is how the first render looks: This was the image I edited and the following image will be the edited version:

PreViz: Camera Rig

I made a camera rig for the PreViz shots later on.

Organic Modelling: Part 5

I have sorted out the UV's for the model, the feet are a little weird but, apart from that I think it looks pretty good.

Organic Modelling: Part 4

Completed the model and corrected the feet to be more like the orthographs. As well as, made a permanent eye.

Lego Car: Finished

I finished animating the lego car, the car has a abrupt turn to it at the end and I think I made the wheels swim backwards somehow. But, I still like it overall. Looking at all the effects in After Effects and coding animation was pretty fun.

Lego Car: Rendering

I have now finished rendering the scene and have done the lighting test renders:

Character Design: Shapes and Spacing

 Notes on spacing:

Character Design: Variance in Design

Proportions and the effects of them:

Character Design: Shapes

My notes on shape language in character design:

Lego Car: Lighting

I have set up the lighting in the scene with the Shot_Cam set up too. However, it crashed when I attempted to render so I will try to render the shot again in a bit.

Lego Car: Animation

I just finished animating the car in motion using the graph editor and keyframes.

Character Design: Character Types

Some notes taken, and quick sketches to show examples of various types of characters you'd see normally ranging from realistic to not.

Lego Car: Rigging

Today I rigged the lego car, using mel code and combining groups, translations and rotations together using code and the expression editor to create the effect of moving the wheels with the car moving forward. For example using the code: "Wheel_rotateZ = (Car_TranslateX/3.14)*360;" Rigged lego car with controls

Fantastic Voyage: Making Of and Reflective Statement

Reflective Statement: I'm pretty disappointed with myself again, as I didn't finish this project at all, I didn't even start the 3D aspect of this project. Which is a shame as I was looking forward trying to rig a fish and have another go at making better textures. I had trouble managing my time, this time round with problems outside of University which I ended up prioritising over the project causing me to lose tons of time at the end. However, everything I've made so far for this project I like quite a lot and I think I made a few improvements in areas like sound design and creating the animatic for the project helped me get my head around symbols in Adobe Animate. I do want to still have a go finishing this project so I think I will maybe work with trying to rig and make a quick animation involving the fish during the summer time to make up for not completing it this time round. I think my idea was pretty good too, which makes it a little more annoying that I never f...

Fantastic Voyage: Audience Research

Since my animation will be primarily based around text, I think my animation has to be for an age group that should have good reading skills so, I want to make this animation for young teens maybe around 14 years old. Specifically to young people who are into dinosaurs and the prehistoric times. As, it will be a short sweet animation to hopefully educate and peak their interests into asking questions like "can fish become land animals?" Then give some insight into how that could potentially happen and how it has happened in the past. I also think this age group works really well for this project as the animations are supposed to be short and informative. So it suits the requirements of young teens as they have quite short attention spans and would be a good quick video maybe explaining something they might need for a homework assignment. Which this age group would probably appreciate.

Fantastic Voyage: Concept Art

Some concept art for some potential shots in the final animation:

Fantastic Voyage: Thumbnails

Some quick thumbnails, showing ideas and concepts I may try to achieve in terms of shots and some thumbnails of coral reefs in the background of each scene.

Fantastic Voyage: Research

The Sarcopterygii was the first fish to ever breathe air, the original video I watched to learn about this fish no longer exists. But, the one below also does a fairly good job on explaining. The fish originally came to be around 418 million years ago and was apart of a family of fish known as the lobe finned fish. Essentially meaning it had short strong fins and mostly crawled on the ocean floor to get around. However, when trees and plant life fell into the water the oxygen levels in the water began to quickly deplete. So, as the fish needed air it began to come up for air. The more the fish did this, the more its body evolved to breath air outside of water by making the following changes:  The fishes swim bladder (the pocket of air within the fish to keep it buoyant) became a lung of sorts to store air for when the fish went back under water. Getting air through its nare (small hole on fishes head, resembling a nostril).  Gravity outside of the water was considerably ...
